Haikus

Haikus are a traditional Japanese writing form. It began as the opening of the Regna form of poetry and then broke off and became shorter. Matsuo Basho then mastered the form as the haiku we know today. Haikus focus on themes of nature, simplicity, brief moments of time, and colorful images.

Haikus have three lines. The first line has five syllables, the second has seven syllables, and the last line has five syllables again. If you need ideas getting started here are some optional prompts:

●Autumn fallen leaves and cold weather

●Winter flurries of snow

●Sad, rainy days

●Sunny, bright skies and singing birds

●Frost forming on the window
